Experiments with Google

Home to more than 1,600 experiments created with google technology from people all around the world.

Experiments with Google was the home for more than 1,600 experiments created with google technology from people all around the world. I was a regular moderator and contributor, both curating and creating regularly for the platform before its migration into labs.google.

The archive of the site remains online as a time capsule as labs.google became our new home for exploratory A.I. experiences.

What started as an Experiments with Google project has since seen its core functionality integrated as product features across the Google ecosystem, including Google Jamboard, Docs, Slides, and Sheets. This transition from a provocative experiment to a utility used by millions highlights the project's impact on how we think about AI-assisted creativity, even in a pre-generative AI world.

Infinite Wonderland uses generative AI to create a unique retelling of Lewis Carrol's classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It is part of our "Labs Sessions" series for Labs.google — the successor to Experiments with Google as Google's home for experimental AI. The project uses Google's StyleDrop as a fine-tuning technique on top of DeepMind's Imagen 2 to infinitely illustrate every sentence in the book. StyleDrop can learn a new style by fine-tuning very few trainable parameters (less than 1% of total model parameters), enabling a collaborative feedback loop between artists and our team at Google Creative Lab; I repeatedly trained new fine-tuned models to help shape our characters, iterating over rounds of creative feedback.

Teachable Machine was originally released as a part of Experiments with Google as one of Google's early A.I. Experiments.
